Geography

OCR A Level Geography aims to encourage students to develop a range of essential skills for Higher Education and the world of work through content which is relevant to any citizen of the planet in the 21st century. It helps students to understand the world around them – both environment and people.

 

Course content:

Year 12

Physical Geography – Landscape Systems (coasts) Earth’s Life Support Systems (water and carbon cycle)

Human Geography – Changing Spaces, Making Places

Geographical Debates – Hazardous Earth Fieldwork & geographical skills – we undertake a variety of day visits and a residential field trip.

 

Year 13

Human Geography – Global Trade & Migration Power & Borders (geopolitics)

Geographical Debates – Climate Change

Fieldwork and skills – Independent Investigation (NEA)

Coursework is 20% of the A Level and may cover any topic on the syllabus.

 

Assessment criteria:

22% Physical systems exam – 1 hour 30 minutes 22% Human interactions exam – 1 hour 30 minutes

36% Geographical debates exam – 2 hours 30 minutes

20% Independent Investigation – Non-Examined Assessment (NEA)
