Applied General Business will give students the opportunity to learn and understand fundamental business and entrepreneurial knowledge and skills associated with working within a business enterprise. Students will understand the way in which any venture in business (big or small) is a function of the relationship between its people, its marketing, its finance and its ability to deliver operationally upon its commitments.
Course content:
Year 12
Students will develop an understanding of how and why businesses operate in the way they do. They will also learn the purpose, methods and importance of finance in business and the appropriateness of different forms of entrepreneurial opportunities available.
Year 13
Students will learn the processes required to develop, present and evaluate a business proposal. They will also explore how organisations operate in a changing environment and the impact this has on human resources. Students will investigate the use of marketing communications by small businesses, develop a marketing communications mix for a business proposal and recommend a marketing communications schedule.

Unit 1 Financial planning and analysis – 1 hour 30 minutes external examination
Unit 2 Business dynamics – internally centre-assessed
Unit 3 Entrepreneurial opportunities – external assignment
Year 13
Unit 4 Managing and leading people – 1 hour 30 minutes external examination
Unit 5 Developing a business proposal – internally centre-assessed
Unit 8 Marketing communications – internally centre-assessed
