Meet Sofia – Exceptional Role Model

“During my time at Thomas Mills High School & Sixth Form I have been able to experience many amazing opportunities. My favourite school trip was the German Exchange. It taught me so much about German culture and I felt very privileged to be a part of this trip. At school, my favourite subjects are German and Drama. Drama is a subject where I can express myself and be creative. Thomas Mills High School & Sixth Form is inspiring and has prepared me so well for my future. At this school minds are open which enable possibilities to be born.” – Sofia Burt

Sofia is an outstanding student – having been an integral member of the year group since she joined in Year 7, she has thrown herself into a variety of extra-curricular activities.

She is a member of the school council, has been a language leader, and played numerous roles in drama productions, including playing Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. She also takes part in a number of sports clubs, and represents the school in athletics, maximising all Thomas Mills High School & Sixth Form has to offer.

Always keen to contribute to lessons and support her peers with their learning, Sofia is an excellent role model to those around her.

Meet Thomas – Driven, Talented Performer

“Since starting at Thomas Mills High School & Sixth Form, I have enjoyed many of the opportunities available. A highlight would be the Holland Trip in year 7. During the school day, there are a multitude of extra-curricular activities, from sports on the field to chess club in the library. The school timetable is varied with a good mixture of academic and creative subjects. I enjoy my Music and Drama lessons because of the impressive opportunities we have in these subjects at this school. I look forward to going to school every day.” – Thomas Underwood

‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ Thomas is a budding superstar with interests across a variety of areas. Within school he has recently worked in the School Library teaching other students, known as ‘Coding Cadets’, how to use code. Thomas is very at home on the stage and, as well as being the lead role in the Lower School Production, has attended Junior Choir throughout the year, and performed at Snape Maltings in March. Thomas prides himself on maintaining the highest of standards which is evidenced by his exceptional Progress Reports and numerous staff nominations in our Achievement Assemblies.

Outside school, Thomas is part of the Co-op Juniors Theatre Company, he has achieved Grade 3 in Ballet and Piano and, as if that wasn’t enough to keep him busy, he is also trying to learn how to play the accordion! Thomas is exemplary in so many ways, and we are lucky to have him as part of our school community.

Meet Freya – Determined, Creative and Active

“My first two years at Thomas Mills High School & Sixth Form have been amazing. There are so many opportunities and activities available, from girls’ STEM at BT to team building on the 2023 Holland Trip. I have learned so much at Thomas Mills High School & Sixth Form. The teachers are kind and supportive and have inspired me with their knowledge and passion. They have encouraged me to try new clubs and take up a new musical instrument which I’ve loved. There is not a day at Thomas Mills High School & Sixth Form where I have not learned something new and had fun!” – Freya Willis

Freya is an outstanding student at Thomas Mills High School & Sixth Form. She is involved in every area of school life and can always be found taking part in extra-curricular activities. She is hard-working with a love of learning and a desire to be the best she can, in keeping with the school’s ethos and values. Meet Tommaso – Diligent Pupil, Drummer and Sportsman

“I have enjoyed my time at Thomas Mills High School & Sixth Form so far. I take the opportunity to participate in as many sporting activities available to me as I can – and there are a lot. I also enjoy being a member of the first orchestra, string and jazz ensembles, as well as three student bands within the school. As I approach my final year of high school, I am looking forward to staying on into the Sixth Form and continuing to make the most of the amazing musical opportunities available at this school.” – Tommaso Castellano

Tommaso is a kind, thoughtful and respected pupil at Thomas Mills High School & Sixth Form. He seeks excellence in all tasks given to him and this is achieved through his exemplary work ethic and motivation. Tommaso has performed in every school performance since year 8 as a key member of the orchestra;
he is currently a grade 8 drummer and aims to raise this achievement even higher. He has also represented the school
in a vast range of sporting events, finishing second in the county badminton finals as well as reaching the orienteering county finals. Tommaso is an exceptional role model to all pupils at
Thomas Mills High School & Sixth Form.

Meet Eva – Orator, Linguist and Captivating Performer

“My time at Thomas Mills High School
 & Sixth Form has been jam-packed
with both academic studies and extra-curricular activities, and the support from staff throughout has been second to none. I know first-hand that the students here receive the encouragement and guidance needed to explore their interests and talents, whilst still achieving great academic success. The sense of family within the school creates a safe space for every student to grow and become the young adult that they aspire to be.” – Eva Balding

Whether it be her performance as Wednesday Addams in the school’s production of The Addams Family or as Baroness Bomburst in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Eva knows just how to captivate an audience. Alongside her considerable acting talents, she serves as an inspiring example of the rewards that can be gained by seizing opportunities offered to her in the sixth form, whether this be through sporting events, commitment to her studies or her inspirational speeches as one of our Head Students. Having applied for a place at Drama School, we have no doubt that we will see her name in lights in the not-too-distant future.

Meet Marcie – Sporty, Inquisitive and with a good sense of humour

“My year 7 experience has been great and I have loved every bit of it. The things I have enjoyed the most are meeting new friends. I am
also enjoying all the clubs at lunchtime, in particular the sports ones. The teachers have certainly made my transition from primary to high school a lot easier than I thought it would be.” – Marcie Snell

Marcie is an exceptional student at Thomas Mills.
She is hard working with a love of learning and a desire 
to improve; in keeping with the school’s ethos. There is much more to Thomas Mills than just lessons and Marcie is making the most of all the wonderful opportunities there are on offer. Marcie has made a fantastic start to Year 7 and we very much look forward to witnessing Marcie’s future successes over the next 7 years.

Meet Acer – Pianist, Performer and Aspiring Musician

“My high school experience at Thomas Mills has been amazing. I’ve really enjoyed participating in the wide range of extra-curricular activities such as orchestra, ensembles and sports clubs. I’m looking forward to staying on for sixth form, where I can study my favourite subjects in more depth.” – Acer Smith

Acer has been a first-rate student and ambassador for Thomas Mills High School. Already an incredibly accomplished musician when he joined us,
he has represented the school in a variety of orchestras and ensembles over the years. Having played piano and violin since he was 5 years old, Acer has passed his grade 8 piano and violin exams and also has a piano diploma. He has received a number of awards at the School’s Awards Evening, including the David Bramhall Award for Music – the highest award the school presents for music. Acer is talented academically and this, combined with his excellent work ethic, has consistently placed him within the top 5% of the year group in terms of Progress Reports. Music is not his only passion as he is an all-round, and interested sportsman, and has represented the school in a range of sports. To be able to keep all of these interests going and at such a high level is a true achievement and a testament to his absolute hard work and dedication.

Meet Hayley – Cellist, Artist and Wolf enthusiast

“My experience of high school so far has been great. I have enjoyed the diversity of subjects and attending a library club. I enjoy science experiments because there is always an excited buzz around the room. I particularly like art because of the wide variety of activities and because it is a creative subject. I would like to learn more about science and biology to hopefully study wolf behaviour in the future.”

Hayley is still in the early stages of her Thomas Mills journey but is already making the most of the opportunities available to her. She has a wide range of interests and has enthusiastically pursued these in the classroom and through participation in extra-curricular activities. Hayley participates in orchestra, cello lessons, and book club. She contributes to the wider life of her school through her involvement in school council meetings where she eloquently puts across matters raised by her tutor group. Hayley beautifully demonstrates many of the school values such as “a love of learning for its own sake” and “courtesy, self-discipline and respect.”

Meet Tom – Confident, country enthusiast and aspiring farmer

“I’ve been at Thomas Mills High School for almost three and a half years, joining mid-way through year 7 and have had some awesome experiences and challenges. I am very much enjoying my GCSE studies and I was privileged to be involved in the small group of students who helped with the world class schools award which the school gained in 2019. This was an experience I’ll never forget.”

Tom is an outstanding pupil at Thomas Mills High School who is making the most of his time here. He is conscientious and wants to learn and improve, in keeping with the school’s ethos. He played a huge role in the school gaining World Class Schools Status and should be commended for this. There is much more to Thomas Mills High School than just lessons and Tom is making the most of all the wonderful opportunities there are on offer.

Meet Ruby – Aspiring medic, amateur baker and determined student

“I have been at Thomas Mills since year 7 and have enjoyed every year here. I took Maths, Chemistry and Biology for A-Level with Physics at AS. In September I will be going to Leeds University to study medicine and one day aim to be a part of Médecins Sans Frontières. There have been many opportunities offered by the school that strengthened my university application such as ‘paired reading’, volunteering at the primary school and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme. The teachers have genuinely cared about my progress and future aspirations and have supported me throughout my 7 years here, helping me to reach my goal. With an atmosphere that is friendly and accepting, there is a place for everyone at Thomas Mills from maths club to sports clubs to film club in the library.”

A pupil at Thomas Mills since she joined the school in Year 7, Ruby’s smile and brightly coloured clothing match her bubbly personality. Just meeting her in a corridor on her way to lessons will lift anyone’s spirits. Sociable, reliable and helpful, she is always willing to give time to others. She is extremely hard working and, although she appears to take things in her stride, she has a measured approach to all that she does and says: when Ruby speaks, people listen. She chose to study Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at A Level and aspires to a career in medicine. Her calm manner and engaging personality will make her an asset to such a profession.
