Henry, a passionate Year 8 pupil from Thomas Mills High School & Sixth Form, was recently featured on Hospital Radio Ipswich talking about his love of nature and dedication to environmental conservation.
At just 13, Henry is already a Youth Board Member for the Suffolk Wildlife Trust, making him the youngest member to serve on the board. His work with the Trust spans various conservation projects, including organizing a hive community event. In his role, Henry says he enjoys “being a voice for the future,” advocating for the natural world.
Henry’s contributions to conservation haven’t gone unnoticed. He’s the youngest nominee for the National Biodiversity Network (NBN) Young Person’s Award. The winners will be revealed on Thursday, November 21, and Henry’s school community and family are all delighted for him.
Alongside his family, Henry works to enhance local wildlife habitats in their rural Suffolk area. His involvement in bird ringing with the British Ornithology Trust and other conservation projects shows his dedication to hands-on work that improves biodiversity. As part of his outreach, Henry also publishes regular articles in his parish magazine, often teaming up with his brothers.
Back at Thomas Mills High School & Sixth Form, Henry plays a key role on the school’s Eco Council, which has recently created bug boxes and a wildflower meadow at the front of the school. The council’s next project includes building bird boxes to support local bird populations.
One of Henry’s proudest moments came when a tree-inspired poem he wrote caught the attention of Sir David Attenborough, who sent him a personal response, applauding his creativity and commitment to nature.

Henry’s work and passion for conservation not only reflect his love for the environment but also offer hope and inspiration for a future where youth voices help shape a more sustainable world.
