Thomas Mills High School and Sixth Form are celebrating an excellent set of Post Sixteen results with students, families and teachers.
Whatever their starting point on entry to the Sixth Form, students make excellent progress in their studies and move on to a wide range of post 18 options from apprenticeships within Suffolk, to employment in local businesses, to university education in at least 35 different UK universities.
Top performers include:
Oliver Downes 3A* and 1A who will study Natural Sciences Cambridge
Jonny Bailey 1A*, 3As who will study Mechanical Engineering at Sheffield
Emily Greenhalgh A*AA who will study Geography at Durham
Isabelle Ratcliffe 4 grade As who will study Law with German Law at Oxford University
and James Last with A*AA
75% of the year group have secured a Higher Education place in at least 33 different universities across the UK including Scotland and Wales and including Oxford and Cabridge Universities. Courses going on to be studied are very broad and varied from Mechanical Engineering, Medicine, Law, Physics, History, Geography, Paediatric Nursing and Midwifery
Andy Cann, Head of Sixth Form said, “Our students have maintained their strong tradition of achieving well at Advanced Level with so many notable personal success stories.”
He added, “Their hard work over the past two years has paid dividends. These results will open doors to great opportunities, and we wish them all the very best for their futures as they embark on their next adventure in life.”
74% of grades were A*-C with 50% of grades at A*-B
Philip Hurst, Headteacher said, “We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements. They thoroughly deserve their success.”
“They have contributed enormously to the wider life of our school community demonstrating exceptional commitment and leadership. They have been brilliant role models, and we will miss them very much.”
Several students recently returned from an expedition in Malaysia, and several have completed their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Mr Hurst said, “We firmly believe in the value of an all-round Sixth Form education which includes independent study, as well as wonderful personal development opportunities.”
The Sixth Form has remained strong and last year saw a significant increase in the Year Twelve numbers with several students joining from local schools. Mr Hurst said, “We are delighted with this interest, and we have been able to slightly increase our staffing to maintain our broad offer of 28 subjects post-16. We want to be a centre of excellence in this very rural yet vibrant community.”
