Movember charity fundraiser in Suffolk School

Movember at Thomas Mills High School

We have just reached the end of Movember. The month where many of our male staff at Thomas Mills High School adorn their upper lip with unique styles of facial hair, often resembling a young Tom Selleck or ‘Goose’ from Top Gun. Their reasons behind it are amazing and men across the world, and in our staff room in Suffolk, have become walking billboards for Men’s health.

Our initial target was £500, but with the collective effort of our staff and pupils at Thomas Mills High School, we surpassed this and have raised over £1000!

During the month of November, pupils have had assemblies highlighting the importance of Movember. They have learnt about the origins, causes, and objectives of the Movember Foundation. Furthermore, pupils have been encouraged to get involved in our ‘Move for Movember’ fundraising campaign. During lunch breaks, they have participated in biking or rowing in our fitness suite and have been sponsored for their efforts.

Earlier in the month, during their PE lesson, some of our year 11 pupils at Thomas Mills High School were treated to a boxing fitness class from an armed forces veteran, Chris Bull. Part of the lesson was spent speaking with Chris about his struggles with mental health and how exercise can have a positive impact on us both physically and mentally, acting as a healthy outlet for any mental strain we may experience.
