Celebrating Diversity

At Thomas Mills High School & Sixth Form, the importance of diversity is both celebrated and embraced. Each year, our Year 7 pupils participate in an exciting day dedicated to exploring and appreciating different cultures and experiences. This year’s Diversity Day was filled with engaging workshops and thought-provoking talks.

The day kicked off with a range of interactive workshops. One of the highlights was a session titled “Can Anyone Box?” led by former student and professional boxer, Eilish Tierney. Another standout workshop was “What Does It Mean to Be Jewish?” conducted by stand-up comedian Rachel Creeger. In the workshop “How Can Art Celebrate Diversity?”, artist Lily Hammond guided pupils through creative activities, illustrating how art can be a powerful medium for expressing and honoring diverse perspectives. Humanist and Hindu speakers also shared their philosophies and beliefs, providing a platform for students to learn about different worldviews. These sessions were invaluable in fostering an environment of open-mindedness and mutual respect.

It was a fantastic day where our Year 7 pupils were encouraged to explore, question, and celebrate the differences that make each person unique.
