Attenborough’s Ocean film

Earlier this month, some of Year 8 geography pupils from Thomas Mills High School and Sixth Form had the chance to visit David Attenborough’s Ocean Film in London at Southbank’s Royal Festival Hall.

Blue Marine Foundation, a UK-based ocean conservation charity, offered schools across the country a unique opportunity to attend the Future Generations’ Premiere of Ocean with David Attenborough. Each selected school received 15 free tickets to this exclusive screening, held ahead of the film’s global release on 8 May, coinciding with Sir David Attenborough’s 99th birthday. The initiative, supported by UBS and players of People’s Postcode Lottery, aimed to inspire young people aged 8 to 14 by showcasing the wonders of the ocean and the urgent need for its protection. The documentary, produced by Silverback Films and Open Planet Studios, features stunning underwater footage and highlights both the threats facing marine ecosystems and the solutions available to restore them. Participating schools also joined Blue Marine’s Education Network, gaining access to ocean literacy resources and workshops. This event underscored the charity’s commitment to fostering environmental awareness and empowering the next generation to engage in ocean conservation.
