Thomas Mills High School are celebrating an excellent set of GCSE results.
“There have been many screams of delight as relieved students and parents start to celebrate some brilliant results,” said Mr Hurst, Headteacher.
Three students, Lucy Crossland, Amelia Mosesson and Joseph Handley achieved mostly Grade 8s and 9s across their ten subjects. Tommaso Castellano achieved the highest number of Grade 8s with a Grade 9 in Italian.
Several subjects are celebrating record breaking results. In Physics 45% of entries were Grade 7 or higher. German achieved 87% Grade 4 or higher, with Religious Education at 86%. Nearly 80% of the cohort achieved Grade 4 or above in Mathematics. “To see students do so well in subjects which are never perceived as easy is a tremendous achievement.”
Mr Hurst congratulated students, staff and parents for their hard work and support. “GCSE success is a team effort.” Mr Hurst particularly singled out the effective work of Mr Rob Symes, Head of Year. “He has skilfully guided this year group to develop resilience and determination leading to focussed study in Year Eleven.” Mr Symes will return to Year Seven and lead the school’s largest new intake to date.
Students who studied with the school achieved 75% 4+ in English and Mathematics. Overall, 60% of grades were Grade 5 or higher.
“We are looking forward to working with many of the students in the Sixth Form.”
“We do say goodbye to some students as they move onto college and wish them well in their next steps.”
