Sixth Formers – Careers Guidance

When we talk about a ‘Career’, we don’t just mean work or a job – it is much more than that. Career is the red thread through your life that brings together learning, interests, skills and work. It is about the progress you make, the skills you learn, the knowledge you acquire and the decisions you make throughout your life. Here at Thomas Mills Sixth Form, we want to support you in that journey through various activities and events as well as personal guidance. We want to inspire and prepare you in the best way possible for your life after Thomas Mills and your future.

If you would like to know more about the things we do to achieve this, please come and see Mrs Treeby in the Careers area of the library (upstairs). You can also speak to Mr Cann, Mr Chittock, Mrs Goodwin, your tutor or subject teachers. We will all do our best to support you.

Our Sixth Form Team has extensive knowledge and experience to advise you on your subject choice for your A-levels, university courses and the application process for these. If you would like to find out more about alternatives to university, or discuss your ideas, questions and decisions in general, then Mrs Treeby will be available for appointments.

And if you would like to find out more in your own time, maybe the following websites can help you:

Work Experience

Work experience placements provide an invaluable insight into the world of work. You will be able to use and improve the skills you have already acquired as well as learn new skills and gain practical experience which will help you progress to university or work after Sixth Form. For this reason, we encourage you to arrange a work experience placement either during holiday periods or during the LVI Career Development Week in the summer term. Alternatively, you can speak to Mr Cann if you have the flexibility in your timetable to undertake a placement on a weekly basis (e.g. one morning or afternoon per week where you have no lessons scheduled).

If you would like to arrange a work experience placement, please inform either Mrs Bull or one of our Sixth Form team.
